Learning begins at home.

I am a mother of 4. I always believe that a child’s education begins at home. That spark, that light, that joy for learning can only happen if we, as parents, begin that love for learning at home. We need not be overachievers or lion/tiger parents. We need to create that environment for knowledge-building at home.

As a teacher, I have always believed that we need to teach our children the importance of respect for all their teachers, regardless of background. We need to tell our children that they are capable of learning not only from us, their parents, but also from their teachers and friends. If we do not inculcate this deep sense of respect in our children when they are young, it will be hard to instill this value in them when they are all grown up.

It is always easy to blame external factors. Yet, sometimes, we need to be humble enough to take a step back and listen to our own words.

Speak positively, so your child can grow positively. Speak negatively, and reap what you sow.

Education begins at home, the root of where your heart is.

Parenting skill is not a given, we learn along the way. There is no right or wrong way. Don’t be so harsh on yourself if you find that the same method does not work on all your children. Every child is a talent, a gift. Each child is unique.

Embrace love. Not hate.

Love our children so they will always show positivity wherever they go.

Sincerely,
Anna Yayah-Khatiwada.
